Zach Johnson leads Team USA as the next 2023 Ryder Cup Captain.
A HUGE congratulations to two-time major winner & HD Golf Tour Player Zach Johnson on his crowning as Team USA’s 2023 Ryder Cup Captain.
As of Monday February 28, the American team officially announced Zach as successor to Steve Stricker, another HD Golf Tour Player, in the role as team captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup matches in Italy. According to the Associated Press, outgoing captain Steve Stricker was among those on the selection committee who chose Johnson.
The 2023 Ryder Cup will be played from September 25 – October 1, 2023 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy. Johnson “knows we’re not supposed to win on European soil”, saying he “wasn’t supposed to make five Ryder Cup teams. But here’s the thing. I love it when the ‘not supposed to’s do.”
Johnson will be the 30th captain since the Ryder Cup’s inception in 1927, and next in line to leading the U.S. to its first win in Europe in 30 years. If the U.S. goes on to win in 2023, Johnson would join Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead and Seve Ballesteros as the only golfers to win a Masters at Augusta National and an Open at St. Andrews while captaining a victorious Ryder Cup team.
